Committee established to nominate National Heroes

Prime Minister Dr Natalio Wheatley announced that the Cabinet had already set up a committee to come up with a list of national heroes for consideration by elected leaders.

“These are individuals whose accomplishments are so incredibly remarkable and special that they deserve recognition on a national and historic basis. Once Cabinet approves the proposed list and associated protocols, the House of Assembly will have the opportunity to debate a resolution that will formally designate these individuals as national heroes,” Premier Wheatley said in a statement. official speech to the territory on October 17 – Heroes and Grandparents Day.

The Prime Minister said that once national heroes are officially named, their stories will become part of the school curriculum and “become part of the national consciousness”.

The BVI community has long called on the government to appoint National Heroes to honor and showcase BVI Islanders who have contributed to the advancement of the territory.

The territory’s first chief minister, H Lavity Stoutt, along with campaigners Noel Lloyd and Theodolph Faulkner are among those many in the community believe should be considered for national honour.
