An Overwatch 2 Watchpoint pack info screenshot may accidentally reveal the name of the next support hero.
A screenshot of the description of the Monitor 2 Watchpoint Pack has started circulating on social media which may have leaked the name of the elusive Kanezaka Fox Girl: Kiriko.
A screenshot that was posted to Reddit in r/CompetitiveOverwatch and then to Twitter contained details of the Monitor 2 Watchpoint Bundle and Battle Pass. In the second half of the description, there was a sentence that read: “As the owner of the Season One Premium Battle Pass, you will automatically have access to Overwatch last hero Kiriko.” This has now been removed from the Monitor 2 Description of the Watchpoint package.
After attending a content creator summit with Blizzard, John “Wanted” Lin may have almost dropped the name during a livestream. When answering questions about the hype leading up to the release of Monitor 2, Wanted was asked who they were excited to play the lead role. He started to reply “I was thinking about Kiri…” then stopped and awkwardly raised a Sword Art Online Kirito character in an attempt perhaps to try to cover it up.
Like the screenshot of Monitor 2 The Watchpoint Pack description has started circulating on social media, with some fans raising concerns about the method of obtaining new heroes. The Battle Pass system will be new for Surveillance and, while there is a free and premium Battle Pass, fans have been taken in by the association and closeness of the word “premium” with the supposed new hero name “Kiriko”. It’s become the biggest talking point for fans thinking they’ll have to purchase the Premium Battle Pass in order to get new Surveillance hero. So much so that Jon Spector, chief commercial officer and vice president of Overwatch, sent out a tweet to calm the crowds.
His tweet bypasses the mention of the hero or his name, but assures fans that new heroes are coming. Surveillance will be available on the free Battle Pass track. What this means can be analyzed another time, but the fact that a senior member acknowledges this leaked information and calls it “incomplete information” lends some credence to the name of the new hero being “Kiriko”.
With early access to Monitor 2 in less than a month, time is running out for Blizzard to get the hype train rolling for the game. Speculating that the company might be looking to announce something at a larger event, the Overwatch League is hosting a LAN event in Toronto September 8-11. Blizzard revealed new heroes during the Overwatch League game a few days prior, when the league was based in Burbank. He might take the opportunity to talk more about the new hero at the Toronto Homestand, which is the hometown of another new Monitor 2 hero, Sojourn.
Monitor 2 releases October 4 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
