SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Taking care of your physical health is important and Tuesday turned out to be National Women’s Health Check Day.
For some people, since the start of the pandemic, going to the doctor has not been a top priority.
However, Dr. Shauna LaFleur reminds people why they should keep coming in.
“Wellness visits are very important. It’s sort of a good step towards extended health and to start screening and catching things early. Women tend to be the decision makers when it comes to home health care often, ”said LaFleur.
Lafleur adds that women tend to delay their own health in order to be there for the people they care about.
Other factors such as work, transportation and insurance keep women away from the doctor.
She says in general, women 21 and older should visit their doctor’s office at least once a year to have a general check-up and update their medical and family history to see any medicals they have. need.
“I think the most important thing is if you think you’re late, especially with last year’s pandemic, come in and do it as soon as you can,” LaFleur said. “I think there has been a decrease in preventive measures. Screening visits and examinations during the pandemic.”
Dr. LaFluer recommends choosing the same time of year for your checkup, such as the end of the school year, an important birthday, or National Women’s Check-up Day.
“I think the most important thing is to establish yourself with your doctor and you know that you will kind of have a complete picture of your health so that we can keep you healthy,” Lafluer said.
